CNN TRANSCRIPT: The number is staggering: 6.6 billion people. The entire population of the United States times 22! And all of them are dependent on the Earth's resources. So, it's easy to see the problems that overpopulation can cause. More than a billion people -- roughly one-sixth of the world's population -- don't have their basic needs. Many go without clean drinking water; many don't have access to modern health care.
Let's look at Africa. This is the world's fastest growing continent, with about 900 million people today. By the year 2050, it's estimated there'll be almost two billion, possibly three times as many Africans as Europeans! But is population increase all bad? Won't there be more people to work, more to provide the services others need? Yes. And when you add up more workers and more consumers, you get a growing economy. The problem is, population growth is expected to be most significant in developing countries, places that already have trouble providing the basic needs of their people. So, having more people could likely worsen the situation, straining these countries' already limited resources. And there are societal factors too: One expert pointed out that with higher population density, you'll see higher crime rates and an increased chance of spreading disease. So, the policies that countries make to deal with these problems today can determine how well we'll handle them tomorrow.
I think it is kinda weird that we are all related!

ReplyDeleteAfrica should stop producing alot of people because everyone needs resouces like water food and so on. We can't supply that or else animals would go extinct because we will use up the forests so people can have homes it is just too kaotic

ReplyDeleteOver population can be good and bad. We need people to do good things and to work to get jobs done bu we don't need a higher crime rate. I don't think it's fair that people in Africa don't have he things that other people have, I think they should at least get clean drinking water. I wonder how some people become homeless because there are many people on the streets, but I wonder how they got there...I wonder why they don't have parents and how come they don't have money.

ReplyDeleteI think that we should help Africa! I think that we have a lot of resources and we shouldn't be greedy with them! Expecially with all of the diseases that are going around their country! We have medicines and vaccines to help us! Poverty is a big deal in their country! The poor people in our country probably look very rich to them! I think that we should help other countries and conteinets out! Africa and other countries like tat need help and weathly countries should give it to them! I mean hasn't mostly everyone been taught in pre school that sharing is caring?!?!?!?!?! I mean if 5 year olds can do it why can't we?

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's right to do this, but maybe those countries should do what China does: limit the children. In my personal opinion, it is wrong to do that, but, I mean, what else are they going to do? In our country, I think we should stop letting in as many imagrants, and find all that illegal ones and kick them out. It isn't fair that everyone but people coming across the Mexican boarder have to take a test and do other things to become a citizen. The Mexican people are not playing fair.

Overpopulation needs to come to an end. If this continues then diseases will spread over africa. Many peolple will die or become ill. Africa alreading dosen't have alot of basic needs and if more people arrive then less and less peole will have their needs like wate, food, and shelter.
