Current Events: Child Labor (10 points)

Where are your clothes made? Do you pay attention to this when you buy something? Look at the label on your shirt or jacket. Where was it made? Could child labor have been involved in its manufacture? Does this change your attitude about what you wear? Reflect on the use of child labor to make less expensive goods for people to buy. 10 points

  3. I think that the new aw about child labor is insane! When I was 10 I was just starting to do chores and these ten year olds are expected to work 16 hour days! I would do it for a lot of money but they get little or no pay at all! I just think that they should lower their expectations out of children.

  5. Adults go to work and kids go to school. How will the kids get an education if for 16 hours a day they are working for little or no pay?

  6. I haven't thought much about where my clothes were made or if the making of them involved child labor or not. I feel bad for the kids who go through child labor and I wish there was something I could do.

  8. I dont think that kid should have to work for twelve hours A day that is way to much work for a kid and there would be no way I could work for that many hours

  11. Thats not right making them go into labor i dont know where I buy my clothes Somtimes I pay attention where my clothes come from and where I buy them I only look at the tag to see what size it is

  12. I think it is really stupid that someone would say it was aloud for a child to work for sixteen hours a day. Most of the children probably aren't getting payed as it is for all there hard work. It's crazy and cruel to kids.

  15. I agree with you Dallas. At 10 you a "double digit" and you get a bit more responsibility, but being expected to 16 hours for like no pay that's wrong!

  16. I would hate to work when I am a kid because I would have something better to do in a day.

  17. I agree with Kyla, how are those kids going to have a future if they are working for 16 hours a day! I think that they should think about the future of their economy and their country! Who do they think will run their country in the future if none of them have an education? I think that they should start looking into the future.

  18. The kids that work should at least get a good or decent pay instead of little or no pay. They should also be at school but they probably don't have any money and that is why they have to work to support there families.

  20. I agree with you Ashlyn because I would also hate to work for sixteen hour at our age. It is brutale to do that . because we are 12,13 years old and at our age we need to get out there and stay active.

  21. What we should do about the wild fires in California is build a large canal that would take a water and cover the fires with water.

  22. I feel bad for the kids who go through child labor. I haven't really stopped to think about the other people in the world that have gone through things like this. If these kids are going to make the clothes then I think they deserve to get payed. I think other people or the people who make the kids work should give the kids the money that the clothing was sold for.

  23. i would hate to work that long thats not fun heck yes it's not fun

  24. I do look at the tag at the back of my clothes because it sometimes has the size on it. I think that China dose do child labor because I do not think that grown adults would make clothes that kids would like. Adults do not think of good clothes for kids.

  25. I think it would change my thinking of waring clothes from company's that break the child labor laws while they are making clothes for others. I dont think that it is write that people force kids to do that because i bet they dont even have good clothes at all on there back

  26. I havn't really though of where my clothes come fromor if it involves child labor or not. I feel really bad for the children that go into labor. I wish there was somthing that I can do about it.

  27. I think its totally ludicrous that ten-year olds can be expected to work sixteen hours in a day when my dad's old boss at Boeing could work, like, five. If you add that up, for five days, a normal school week, that's like, forty hours! There's no way that is healthy. Especially at their age. My little sister is ten and she does household chores, but nothing to that extent! It takes, like, twenty minutes to get them done. If kids don't work they don't become self efficient but that is just crazy to expect them to acually work forty hours a week. They would probably have that job for the rest of their lives because of their lack of education. Which is sad when you think about it. I mean, those kid's parents probably never heard the words 'You can be whatever you want to be.' when they were little. I bet everyone remembers a parent or someone asking them what they wanted to be, not telling them. That's just crazy.

  30. Child labor or not, this is wrong! Kids too young that have child labor should have abortions because, if my instincts are right, kids do not really know what might happen to them. They might have successfully have the child. However, the child might have a disease that might have come from the mother or the father, or the child might ... die. Like I said, you may never know what might happen to either you or the child. My mother told me that kids who have child labor to young might not give birth to the child, or the child is born, but the mother could ...die or they both die. At the age of ten, is really young to have a child, but maybe, just maybe, that the girls who have child labor, might have been raped. I have read numerous books about rapes and they occur at the ages of ten and up. But, IT IS STILL WRONG!

  31. It makes me think about where and who made my clothes and if i was the child that was making clothes i would rather want to have fun than make clothes for other people!

  32. I agree with Ashlyn, sixteen hours of work is not right. But I have another side that tells me that the girls who had child labor at the age of ten should deserve ... pain. I am not saying that it is good for them, however, I still think they should have it. For Pete's sake, look at these girls. At the age of ten, that is not right! No offense, you girls who have child labor at the age of ten, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You are the ones who got into this mess and it is too late to change. What has been done, has been done. My parents say to me is that you cannot change the future. To my dad's opinion, he says, "You make a mess, you fix it. Do not ask other people to help you. This is your mess. Figure it out yourself."

  33. I think it is wrong for kids that age to have to work so hard and get paid so little. The elders are the ones who are supposed to be working but i guess they are just lazy.

  34. Children that young shouldn't have to work that long or even work at a job like that. I sometimes do something to get money but not like this. Most of the time these kids dont even get paid and they have to sleep on the floor. The people that are doing these to the kids are justing ruining their lifes....they will have no education at all unless they some how get to go to school but i don't think that they do get to go.
I dont even look at the tag on the clothes i am going to buy unless i want to know the size but there is usual a place on the outside. I hope in the near future that they have a law for this all over the world so children dont have to live like this....i mean just think of not having a christmas with your family i would hate that...:)
