Della an Jim are struggling to make ends meet ,but worst of all it's Christmas time. Della only has $1.87 and doesn't know what to get her husband for Christmas. She whispers to God when Jim arrives,"Please make him think I am still pretty." This supports my topic because Della is trying to make her husband happy by selling her hair because she doesn't have enough money to buy a gift for Jim.
